COMMUNITY AND CONSERVATION THROUGH COLLABORATION

The York River and Small Coastal Basin Roundtable is a forum for information sharing and collaboration among water quality and conservation-minded stakeholders within the York River, Mobjack Bay and Piankatank River watershed areas.

The Chesapeake Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve in Virginia, administered by the Virginia Institute of Marine Science, coordinates the Roundtable in support of Virginia’s effort to protect water quality and conserve coastal resources for the betterment of its communities.

OUR WATERSHED

From the rolling foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, to the manmade banks of Lake Anna; the Dragon Run of the Piankatank River and oyster reefs of Mobjack Bay; to the forested wetlands along the Pamunkey, and the salt marsh islands of the York, the collective Roundtable expanse represents the full suite of Chesapeake Bay watershed habitats. Including nearly eight percent of Virginia’s total land area, the York River and small coastal basins’ watersheds are among the smallest of the Commonwealth’s Chesapeake Bay watersheds, though no less important.

OUR WORK

The Roundtable’s work is guided by our 2022- 2025 Strategic Plan, which outlines who we are as an organization and how we would like to progress. We have several projects underway to share information on the health of the watershed for increased conservation, restoration and recreation efforts. Find more information on our work below.
