Riparian forests provide a diversity of benefits to ecosystems and communities. Katie Brownson, USFS Liaison to the Chesapeake Bay Program, will provide an overview of riparian forests and their benefits, including water quality, climate resilience and flood mitigation. Two guest speakers will then highlight the work their organizations are doing to maintain and restore riparian forests and the on-the-ground strategies they use. Jeremy Geist of Trout Unlimited will discuss projects in the Great Lakes region that utilize approaches such as the addition of large wood in and adjacent to streams, climate informed riparian forest plantings, and stream channel and stream bank restoration. Craig Highfield of Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay will discuss planting new riparian forest buffers in the Chesapeake Bay region. Craig will discuss partnership strategies and conservation programs the Alliance uses to implement and maintain riparian forests. Register here!
